How to Do a Proper Spa Day in the Brisbane CBD
Circuit order, heat timing and why the magnesium pool always comes last — the spa director's protocol for a perfect day.
Guests do spa days backwards. They book the treatment first, rush the circuit afterwards, and wonder why the massage didn't land. The truth: the circuit is the preparation, not the afterthought. Do it in the right order and the same 90-minute ritual delivers twice the result.
Here's the protocol I give first-timers on Level 6 — the same sequence our therapists run on their own days off.
The circuit, in order
- 10 min — rain shower, warm rinse. The skin needs to start clean.
- 15 min — eucalyptus grotto. Opens airways, raises core temp slowly.
- 90 sec — cold plunge. Brief, shocking, essential.
- 15 min — second grotto or steam. The contrast is where the magic happens.
- 20 min — magnesium vitality pool. Always last — it seals the work.
Most people skip the plunge. Don't. The 90-second cold shock is what makes the pool feel like medicine instead of a bath.
Water is the oldest therapy we have. The trick is respecting the order it wants to work in.Sofia Andretti, Spa Director
Heat timing
Morning bodies take heat faster — before 10 AM you can push the grotto harder. After 4 PM, shorten the steam and lengthen the pool; the nervous system is already tired and needs soaking more than sweating. Our busiest hour is 2–4 PM; the spa is emptiest before 9 and after 8 — those are the hours the regulars keep to themselves.
Choosing your ritual
If it's your first visit, take the Riverstone Hydrotherapy — it's the circuit compressed and amplified into 90 minutes. If your week was physical, the Rainforest Hammam's kessa polish is unmatched. If it was mental, the Ayurvedic Reset's final pranayama session is what people write us letters about. Details and prices live on the spa page.
After the spa
Don't rush to the lift — the relaxation deck's herbal infusion and twenty minutes of horizontal stillness is half the treatment. Guests who leave slowly report better sleep that night; the data from our own sleep-team pilot actually backs that up.
If it's a day pass, pair it with a late lunch at The Conservatory — post-spa appetite is real, and the courtyard-side tables catch the afternoon light.
One last protocol note: hydrate before you feel thirsty. There's infused water at every station for a reason. See you on Level 6 — I'll be the one reminding guests to try the plunge.
Quick Answers
The questions this piece raises most often.
Day passes are walk-in friendly — buy at the Level 6 desk and you're in within minutes. Rituals need 48 hours' booking; couples' suite needs a week or two on weekends.
Give the circuit 75 minutes minimum, plus your ritual and at least 30 minutes on the relaxation deck. The guests who treat it as a half-day report the best results.
Of course — roughly 40% of ritual guests are men, and the Riverstone Hydrotherapy was designed with post-gym and post-flight recovery in mind.
